Registration will open September 1 and close October 15.

Where is String Fling?

All String Fling activities will be held in the Kansas State University Student Union located at 918 N. MLK Dr. and McCain Auditorium located at 1501 Goldstein Circle, Manhattan, KS.

What orchestra am I in?

Your orchestra placement depends on your grade and city. Visit the ORCHESTRAS page after October 20 for more information.

What should I bring?

Please bring the following: your instrument, a well-labeled folding music stand, a rock stop (cello/bass), a pencil, and money for meals, snacks, & K-State Orchestra merch!

What happens if I break a string at rehearsal?

K-State student helpers will assist in making minor repairs throughout the weekend. You will need to reimburse the K-State String Division for any materials, such as strings, you might need.

Can I leave my cello or bass at the Union over the lunch hour?

We have requested that all rehearsal rooms be locked when we’re not in rehearsal—be aware, however, that leaving your instrument on campus is done so at your own risk.

Will there be a concert?

Yes…two, in fact! All student ensembles will have the opportunity to showcase their work from the day through informal and informative performances, or “Informances”. At the conclusion of the day, all students will attend a farewell performance by the K-State Symphony Orchestra!

Cancellations & Refunds

String Fling is never cancelled and all registration fees are non-refundable. Since String Fling registrations fund future scholarships for K-State student musicians, we appreciate your understanding of these policies.

Do I need to prepare the music in advance?

No. All music will be provided once you arrive. If you would like to get a head-start, however, you can find all music selections listed within each orchestra’s page.
